Biography

Igor Nelyubovich (born 1948, Gorky—now Nizhny Novgorod, Russia) is a contemporary Russian artist recognized for his distinctive graphic style, expressive use of line, and carefully balanced color accents. His paintings are highly decorative and characterized by a unique internal structure in which light, rhythm, and composition form the foundation of each work.

Nelyubovich began his artistic education at the art studio of the Palace of Pioneers before attending the Gorky Secondary Art School. From 1963 to 1966, he studied at the Gorky Art School, later choosing to pursue architecture at the State Institute of Civil Engineering while continuing to develop his artistic practice. He graduated in 1971.

Following graduation, Nelyubovich worked as an architect in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), including at a research institute specializing in urban development. In 1984, he made the decision to devote himself fully to art as a freelance artist. During the 1980s, he became associated with the creative circles of the Leningrad underground art movement.

Since the early 1990s, Nelyubovich has established himself as a professional artist. In 1999, he became a member of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Union of Artists of Russia.

Over the course of his career, Nelyubovich has participated in more than 150 exhibitions in Russia and internationally, including a major exhibition at AGORA Gallery in New York, as well as exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, and other countries.

In 2021 and 2022, he was recognized among the Top 10 Contemporary Artists by World of Art Magazine.

Artistic Philosophy

"Painting strives for generalization—not an image, but a sign; not a plot, but a symbol; not a moment, but eternity.

An absolutism that becomes natural.

It can be called many things, but for me it is Postconceptualism."
